DeKalb, IL Engagement Photography | Matt & Megan

I’ve never doubted that my clients are literally THE BEST, but this session confirmed it. Matt and Megan powered through millions of mosquitoes during our time together and not only did they not complain once, they managed to look good and keep smiling! They were real troopers!dekalb_IL_engagement_photography_0001.jpg
This was very much a get in, snap a few pictures, get the heck out and keep moving kind of session. I’m tellin’ ya, these two are pros!dekalb_IL_engagement_photography_0014.jpg
By this point, I was literally like, “Okay, jump in there, kiss, now RUUUUUN back!!”dekalb_IL_engagement_photography_0017.jpg

thank you, Thank You, THANK YOU, Megan and Matt!! I can’t wait to photograph you two again at your wedding in OCTOBER!! 😀

Blumen Gardens Wedding Photography | Chris & Karissa

Yo! Welcome to Chris and Karissa’s wedding blog post!  🙂 These two were married back in June, and what a great day it was! We had to deal with a bit of pesky weather, but as you’ll see at the end of this post: WORTH IT. blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0002.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0003.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0004.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0005.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0006.jpg Man, you’re gorgeous, Karissa.blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0001.jpg Meanwhile, Seth was killing it with the guys…blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0007.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0008.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0009.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0010.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0011.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0012.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0013.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0014.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0015.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0016.jpgblumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0030.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0017.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0019.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0020.jpg blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0021.jpgLOL.
blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0022.jpg The ceremony was originally supposed to take place outside at Blumen Gardens, but there was a threat of severe storms, so about 30 minutes before the ceremony, they moved things inside. Too bad the inside of Blumen is so ugly. #sarcasm 😉

I mean, HELLO!! You can’t be mad at a little rain when this is the result! P.S. There was no threat of severe weather by this point. 😉blumen_gardens_wedding_photography_0038.jpg

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
It is so hard to pick a favorite memory from that day, but probably just being able to celebrate with all of our closest friends and family. It’s so amazing to see so many people just as excited as we were to be getting married. Oh, and dancing!!

Is there anything you would have done differently?
We wish we would have had a day of coordinator to make it less stressful for our families so that they could have been able to relax more.

Best piece of advice for brides and grooms?
Make sure you allow yourself plenty of time for everything. Even though we had a lot of down time we still felt like things were rushed. Get great vendors. We were so happy with all of ours and it helped make our day even more perfect. Also, enjoy the day. In the end it will end up to be perfect because it’s your day.

Where will you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Lake Geneva for three days after the Wedding for a “Minimoon” and we are going to Jamaica in December.

Anything else you’d like to say about your wedding day?
It was absolutely perfect and we couldn’t have done it without all of our amazing vendors!!! 🙂

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
Walking down the aisle as Mr. and Mrs. Dancing with new husband and friends.

Is there anything you would have done differently?
I might have taken a break from dancing for a song or two to visit with guests who weren’t on the dance floor. There are so many friends and family gathered together and so little time to spend with each of them!

Best piece of advice for brides and grooms?
The day will fly by – make sure you have an awesome photographer (like Chrissy) to capture all the little details. I spent months worrying about little details and then hardly remember them from the actual day! I just remember the overall impression of everything coming together perfectly.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We went to Greece – Athens and Santorini. We loved both places. We did a lot of sightseeing in Athens and then relaxed in Santorini.

Anything else you’d like to say about your wedding day?
It truly was the Best Day Ever!

Dekalb, IL Family Photography | Heath, Katie, Blake, & Knox

This family has been with me for a looooooooong time!! Like, almost since the beginning, long time. I photographed Katie & Heath’s engagement session and their wedding all the way back in 2011! A LOT has changed since then! I mean, Blake a is now a man-child, and they’ve gained a new cutie, Mr. Knox!

If you live in the Midwest you know how annoying the rain was this Spring. This first group of images is from the initial session we had scheduled where it started raining literally the second I opened my car door. We went with it for about 5 minutes while it drizzled and grabbed a few pictures anyways. dekalb_IL_family_photography_0011.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0012.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0013.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0014.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0015.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0016.jpgdekalb_IL_family_photography_0017.jpg

Round Two took place about a month later. Knox was quite the little flirt!dekalb_IL_family_photography_0001.jpg

Thank you, Katie & Heath, for putting up with the crazy weather this year! It’s always a pleasure to photograph your beautiful family! ❤

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
We both said this one at the same time: The first look!

If you could, is there anything you would have done differently?
No, we were so happy with the way that our wedding day unfolded, it was everything that we had wanted.

Best piece of advice for brides and grooms?
The best advice that we could give to brides & grooms is to not sweat all the details of the wedding, but focus on the commitment that you are making to one another.

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Cancun, Mexico

Anything else you’d like to say about your wedding day?
It was the best day of our lives! After 7 years dating we both agree that we couldn’t wait a moment longer to start our lives together.

St. Charles, IL Engagement Photography | Brendan & Emily

I had the wonderful privilege of photographing my first proposal last month, and let me tell you, it was pretty darn amazing.

Brendan spent three months (correct me if I’m wrong here, Brendan!) planning the event with the help of friends and family. It was quite a thing!EmilyBrendanProposal_016.jpg
EmilyBrendanProposal_064.jpgEmilyBrendanProposal_009.jpgEmilyBrendanProposal_067.jpgThe signs below read, “We have each other and that’s how the story will end.” Emily had to walk down the line receiving roses from her friends and family until she got the end of the line where Brendan was waiting for her. EmilyBrendanProposal_046.jpgEmily, I can barely handle how adorable you are.EmilyBrendanProposal_086.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_087.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_089.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_092.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_093.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_100.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_108.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_111.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_113.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_116.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_117.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_122.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_123.jpgNext Brendan played a song for Emily and then, well, you’ve all seen enough movies to know what happened next. 😉EmilyBrendanProposal_131.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_132.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_134.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_135.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_141.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_144.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_146.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_148.jpgAfter everyone dried their eyes and congratulated them, I whisked B&E off for a few quick post-engagement pictures. EmilyBrendanProposal_162.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_165.jpgYou two are literally the cutest. 😀EmilyBrendanProposal_174.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_179.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_190.jpg EmilyBrendanProposal_193.jpg

GAH! You’re STUNNING, Sharon!!bloomington normal IL wedding photography_0086.jpg
bloomington normal IL wedding photography_0110.jpg
It rained alllllllll day, which meant that all the pretty outdoor locations we had planned for pictures were thrown out the window. So we improvised. First look in the hotel room? You you know it! Also, how dapper is Scott??? bloomington normal IL wedding photography_0081.jpg

The rain scaled back to a drizzle, so we chanced one of our outdoor locations, whiiiiiiiiich ended up being flooded. Doh! Whatevs, this team was amazing, so we made it work. bloomington normal IL wedding photography_0087.jpg

P.S. I ALWAYS bring these clear bubble umbrellas with me, even if there’s a 0% chance of rain because Midwest weather does weird things. As long as it’s safe and not downpouring, I try to encourage couples to get outside, even if it’s just for a couple minutes. I’m so thankful that Scott and Sharon (and their wedding party!) embraced their rainy day! I mean, this image? BOOM!bloomington normal IL wedding photography_0089.jpg

What is your favorite memory from your wedding day?
Every moment was our favorite! Ultimately, we just loved being surrounded by the people we love most as we celebrated our marriage.

If you could, is there anything you would have done differently?
We had hoped to formally greet every guest after we had finished our last course of dinner (we were served first for each course, so had a little bit of a head start). The timing didn’t quite work out, so we only made it a couple of the tables before the dancing began. If we could go back, we would have likely opted to dismiss by pew or have a receiving line at the church right after the ceremony. We didn’t do this initially because we were wanting to keep things moving for family and formal bridal party pictures.

Best piece of advice for brides and grooms?
This is a very special day! You will be pulled in a million (amazing) directions by family & friends throughout it…try to savor every moment! If you can, spend some time alone with just you and your husband/wife. We are so glad we did a “first look” as that offered us a few moments together alone. We also opted for a sweetheart table at the reception–it was nice to share our first married meal there, plus we had such a lovely view of the whole room filled with all of our loved ones. What a magnificent sight that was!

Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We visited the island of St. Lucia!

Anything else you’d like to say about your wedding day?
It was the best day of our lives!! We are so glad we invested in a fabulous photographer and videographer to capture it all!
